In addition to the recent announcement that Longfellow Elementary School qualified as the National Distinguished Title I campus for Closing the Achievement Gaps for the state of Colorado, the district received notice that their achievement results were again among the best in the state. John W. Condie, NW Regional Manager for the Colorado Department of Education, announced today that Salida R-32-J was one of 13 school districts in the state who reached ALL of the annual measurable achievement objectives (AMAO). Mr. Condie said:
This really is quite difficult, especially when the third measure includes meeting AYP targets. You and your staff are certainly to be commended.
On a related note, nine of the thirteen school districts are from the Northwest Region, which says a lot about the emphasis and efforts that the districts and BOCES in the region are placing on ELL students. The Northwest Region districts are:
- Garfield 16
- Aspen
- Salida
- West Grand
- East Grand
- North Park
- Hayden
- Steamboat Springs
- South Routt
Congratulations on being one of only thirteen school districts that met all three of the annual measurable achievement objectives (AMAO).
As Superintendent of Salida R-32-J, I am proud of the hard work of our teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, parents, and especially our students. We are on track to become one of the state’s best school districts in terms of student achievement.
John P. Rouse
Superintendent

Great job teachers! You sure earned the salary increases passed in the last election. This calls for a celebration, not just a pat on the back. Teachers on parade! Rouse for this year’s FIBArk Commodore!
