Salida Mountain Trails (SMT) requests volunteer assistance for the trail workday and BBQ on Saturday, March 7, 2009.
Please note that this is a change from the normal second-Saturday of the month Shindig schedule. SMT is making the schedule change in order to help out the Chaffee County Running Club (CCRC) with their “Run Through Time” event. Some of SMT’s most dedicated trail crew help comes from the ranks of CCRC.
SMT will meet at the Gate on Spiral Drive at 8:30am. Trail work will consist of new construction behind “S” Mountain on the “Backbone” trail, continuing the alignment from CR173 saddle to tie in with Sand Dunes Trail. This is a section with stunning views! After the trail work is completed, the trail crew will regroup at about 2:00pm behind Absolute Bikes and Bongo’s Salida Cafe to enjoy food, drink, and conversation.
SMT is involved in creating the Arkansas Hills Trail System for the enjoyment of residents and visitors in the community of Salida.

For anyone who has not seen this trail, it is an amazing community effort. Even if you cannot dig, come up, say hi and look around. I know Andrew, Tom or any of the guys are happy to explain what’s going on.
Nice work to everyone down there! I look forward to being there.
Go SMT! bd
