The newly formed Chaffee Citizens for Sustainability (CCFS) announced that its first fundraiser is scheduled on Saturday, April 4, from 5:00-9:00 p.m., at the Victoria Tavern in downtown Salida.
At the event CCFS will provide educational information regarding Nestle’s proposed water project and informed citizens will be available to answer questions. The Lazy Aliens, a popular local band, will play from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and there will be complimentary pizza. Suggested donation at the door is $8.
CCFS, a group of concerned local citizens, aims to study Arkansas Valley sustainability issues, educate residents, and work to steer county and local governments toward sustainable, environmentally friendly, smart growth. Nestle Water North America’s permit application to harvest spring water from Chaffee County for bottling in Denver is the group’s first project.
Money raised from the Saturday event at the Vic will be used to address and oppose the Nestle project including public relations services and educational materials. If you cannot attend, contributions can be sent to CCFS, P.O. Box 426, Salida, 81201. CCFS welcomes all citizens to join the group. For more information or to get involved, come to the group’s next meeting on Sunday, April 5 at 4:00 p.m., downstairs at Bongo Billy’s, or email CCFSustainability@gmail.com.

A huge thank you to Vicky Klein for organizing the Saturday event at the Vic. We are so lucky to have stolen her from Santa Fe and so glad we now have Vicky as a “Salida Citizen”.
