One of the 15 or so items on the agenda for Tuesday’s County Commissioner’s meeting was an additional consultant arrangement in connection with the Nestle North America 1041 application.
This item resulted in an approximately one-hour discussion involving the County Commissioners, County Staff, and Nestlé representatives. The agenda item concluded when the Commissioners unanimously voted to hire two additional consultants. One of the new consultants to be hired will be addressing the subject of economic impacts to the County from Nestlé’s proposed project. The other consultant will be addressing the relation/interaction of the wetlands and the aquifer.
Based on this decision by the County Commissioners to hire additional consultants, it does not seem that a meaningful public meeting involving the Commissioners and the citizens of Chaffee County regarding the Nestle 1041 application can be held for quite some time. It would seem reasonable that the public should expect at least a 60-day extension of the process. The County is under no obligation to rush through any aspect of the application.
If this logic seems reasonable to you as a citizen, you are encouraged to communicate this sentiment directly to the County Commissioners and specifically ask for a 60 to 90 day extension They do desire to know how their constituents feel.
