“The Keeper of the Spring” is a story which had been delivered in a local church three times. I heard it for the first time in January of 1999 when my daughter was 8 years old. It really “stuck” with me. The UAWCD is our “keeper” and the “embarrassed town council” will be our three commissioners if Nestle obtains approval of the 1041 Application and the SLUP.
The next meeting allowing public comment is 1PM next Wednesday at the SteamPlant Theatre. Get facts at www.chaffeecounty.org on Nestle Waters requirements needed to get approval of the 1041. Bring your concerns to the public meeting and speak if so compelled. At a minimum get involved, ask questions, seek answers that will help our two of three commissioners who are working for us deny the application. Our county is spending money on excellent advisors who made Nestle squirm yesterday. We are on the brink of stopping this, which would be much better than a continuation.

Over the past 6 months or so, Nestle has decided not to continue discussions with the City Councils in three towns – Enumclaw, Orting, and most recently Black Diamond – along the western slopes of the Cascade Mountains to the southeast of Seattle. This was after opposition to their projects began to solidify.
You can read more about how other towns in California and in Maine are fighting against Nestle at http://www.defendingwaterincalifornia.org and at http://www.defendingwaterinMaine.org
It looks light you’ve got a bigger challenge on your hands, and I hope your elected officials will do the right thing and support the rights of the community and of the ecosystem by not approving this project.
Good luck,
Nancy Price
I am totally against the (LTE) Nestle Water Project in Chaffee County. Colorado’s water source is a big concern to any one that lives here. Based on what I’ve read I don’t see any financial benefit that would outweigh the amount of water they will be pumping out and taking to Denver for bottling. What we should also be concerned about is the horrible footprints those plastic bottles are making on our planet. Perhaps there should be a law against selling water in plastic bottles and that would definitely take care of Nestle taking precious water away from us.
