The easy way to write a consultant report for Nestle:

1) Write the conclusions that will get you paid by Nestle.

2) Select, manipulate, ignore, falsify, and massage data to support claims made in 1)above. Write a theoretical piece that purports to, but does not cover the real-world situation proposed.

3) Make a nice Power Point to present 1 & 2.

4) Mumble a lot and agree to “get back” when the grilling gets tough. Pretend that the PA system isn’t working properly. The Nestle THK consultant report said that Chaffee would collect sales taxes on diesel fuel for the water trucks. (there is no county sales tax on fuel and no trucking co. would buy fuel here at higher prices)

In the spirt of full openess that Nestle has proclaimed, please disclose what the Nestle tribe including Bruce and all the consultants, hired guns, spin doctors, and spear carriers have/are being paid. Is there a bonus if the permit gets approved?

The supposed $80,000 annual property tax benefit to Chaffee County has been reduced to less than $17,000.

And the promises of fuel tax revenue have evaporated also, as have the assurances that enough baseline water studies were done.

All have fallen to independent studies done by consultants, and you have to wonder why that happened.

Most shocking has been the reversal of Nestle’s stance toward the community itself, which was initially limited to donating a few cases of bottled water to schools.

Suddenly, Nestle’s quickdrawing their wallet and providing a minimal endowment (which initially seemed tied to nonprofits “supporting” Nestle’s aims, an idea whose time should never come).

At this point, you have to wonder if the benefits to the area (which are mostly short-lived) outweigh the consequences of working with a company with such an awful track record – both here and in other rural communities.
