Salida’s SteamPlant Theatre and Event Center will be the place to be in Salida on Friday, June 12, when “Big Daddy Lee and the King Bees” drop in from Aspen to rock the house with their unique variety of blues music, including dancing and a Cajun gumbo feast. The event is a fundraiser for KHEN 106.9 FM Community Radio.
“We’ve had amazing support from the community to put this together,” said Event Coordinator Emilé Dubia. “More than 35 local businesses have jumped in to sponsor the event — a huge show of support for KHEN and another example of the generosity of our community. The Swamp Stomp will be a blast – absolutely a night to remember for Salida.”
Gumbo will be served from 6-8 PM. Big Daddy Lee and the King Bees will perform from 7-11 PM. KHEN t-shirts, CDs and other station-related merchandise will be available for sale, including a limited edition “Swamp Stomp” shirt designed by local graphic artist Jared Jacob.
To add to the fun, artist Phil Lear of Ortmann Gallery will paint the scene as it unfolds, capturing the vitality of the band and energy of the event in vibrant colors characteristic of his work. The painting will be sold at a silent auction during the event. Tickets to the event are $18 and available at Bongo Billy’s Salida Café, Free The Monkey Consignment, KHEN, the SteamPlant, and at the door.
