In McCloud (CA), they repeatedly said they wouldn't interfere in the 2006 local election, then wrote a sizable check to "their" slate of candidates the day <i>before</i> the election. By the time anyone found out, the election was over (Nestle's candidates barely won, in part because they easily outspent their opponents), yet prior to the election, the candidates and Nestle were able to repeatedly say Nestle wasn't interfering. This kind of story is repeated over and over by the Swiss multinational, which has a well-developed playbook for dealing with small, rural communities. Unfortunately, behavior like this is par for the course for Nestle Waters.
