GARNA offers birds of prey and falconry presentation in Buena Vista

On Saturday November 14, the Greater Arkansas River Nature Association (GARNA) will host a presentation by Buena Vista resident Mark Wolters on Birds of Prey and Falconry. Mark has been a licensed Colorado falconer since he was twelve years old and has flown birds for wild game hunting for about 32 years. Mark has flown an American Kestrel, Red-tail hawk, Prairie Falcon, Peregrine/Prairie Falcon hybrid, Merlin, Coopers hawk and currently a female Harris hawk who will be a part of the program. Mark’s presentation will focus on the first year of a raptor’s life, general characteristics, falconry and raptors seen in the Arkansas River Valley. There will be plenty of time for questions. Please bring a bird field guide if you have one. If weather permits, the group may go north of Buena Vista to see Mark give a flight demonstration. The presentation is free and will begin at 10:30 am at the Buena Vista Public Library, 131 Linderman. For more information please call GARNA at 539-5106.
