I just saw that Franzer’s looks amazing! Where else is the ice good right now?

with the cold temps Im sure there is great ice around. Folks have been skating the west end of Clear Creek Res. for atleast a week now. At 3 inches thick last weekend, it can only get better, but 3 inches isn’t considered safe so be aware. Twin lakes should start getting skatable soon, if not sections of it already.
if anyone breaks out the sticks and pucks for some old school pond hockey, I’m game.
Try the quarry pond on the way to Turrett. For the past 6 years or so my wife and i have been clearing it off. It is well protected from wind and snow and isnt creek fed so it freezes smooth doesnt heave or collapse, close to town, and large enough to sustain a real hockey game. Not that I play, just think that it is a treasure that we skaters should take full advantge of. P.S. Because of its protection the ice stays good well into march. Better than the maggie in Breck.

Greg–you gave away our secret surf, I mean, skate spot!!
Yea, your right. My Bad!
LOL..hopefully you’re not too worried. If too many folks go there, that’s awesome, and unlikely as you know! When we first moved here ten years ago we shoveled a rink there a few times. I didn’t know anyone else knew about it actually? and havent been back there in a few years. That little pond by the campground up Chalk Creek is our standby nowadays, albeit cold/shady, which cuts both ways of course.
I heard Clear Creek is amazing right now btw.
We’re skating Franzers after kids get out of school today.
thanks, Greg. I was there a few years ago but haven’t been back.
Hey, after having classic Bauer 100s growing up, I left them at my parents after high school to be sold at a garage sale for probably $5 ..along with my beer can collection, and 1960′s Skurfer collection, but that’s another story. So, maybe ten years ago I bought some $40 plastic shell skates. Needless to say, they suck. Now, after ten years, I am totally over them. Does anyone have some ok used hockey skates size 9-10 to sell/barter?
Also Riley took over Laura’s hockey skates, so I need some new ones for her, size 7-ish. I also have Shea’s old little skates I’d love to trade/sell.
pass it on, thanks..! bd
bill, good to see you out there skating this early in the year. I am always afraid to be the “test bunny” on ice! Dan just asked me yesterday, do people skate on Franz. Lake?
The NHL is now scouting me.

Hey, I like my 1980′s JC Penny’s white figure skates.
Breaking Salida hockey news…the Salida Ravens played their 1st game this season at the Gunni indoor rink. We tied the Gunnison Masters Team 4-4. Not bad considering we had 9 players to their 16, and they’ve been paying for 2 months now, and for most of us, it was out 1st time on skates this year.
With all this snow, its time to ski powder up high. If anyone is interested in playing on the Salida team, get in touch.
…Have you all seen this?
