Hickenlooper to run for governor

Update:

From the Denver Post:

Mayor John Hickenlooper announced his gubernatorial bid this afternoon, saying “I love Colorado every bit as much as I love Denver.”

Hickenlooper said his agenda is going to be about jobs, and that he knows first-hand what a souring economy can do. His geology career that took him around the state in the 1980s ended with the crash of industry back then.

According to breaking news at the Denver Post, Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper will throw his hat into the ring for governor. An announcement is scheduled for later today.

From the article:

Hickenlooper timed his announcement to occur before the opening of the Colorado General Assembly on Wednesday and Ritter’s State of the State address on Thursday.

He had to wait for later this afternoon because Ritter and Democratic leaders are holding a news conference on the west steps of the state Capitol at 3 p.m. to discuss the upcoming session. Hickenlooper’s press conference is likely to follow although a firm time and place has not been set.

Hickenlooper is expected to hold a formal kickoff with events statewide after he returns from the winter meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors that begins Jan. 20 in Washington, D.C., the sources said.

Last week Hickenlooper told The Denver Post editorial board that he likely would stay on as mayor if he were to run for governor. He said he had a good team around him at the city, and feared the problems of holding a special mayoral election at the same time officials were trying to deal with a historic budget crisis.

One response to “Hickenlooper to run for governor”

  1. I can not support anyone who aligns themselves with anti second amendment groups and aristocrats like NY Mayor Bloomberg. John Hickenlooper is a member of Bloomberg’s anti second amendment mayor’s club, misleadingly named Mayors Against Illegal Guns. Bloomberg openly believes all guns should be restricted and this group is he way of pursueing that agenda.
