New water, sewer bills and ACH payments

Water and sewer customers of the City of Salida will notice their latest bill looks a little different. The City’s fourth quarter billing was prepared using a new “press and seal” machine that eliminated over thirty hours of manual folding, envelope stuffing and sealing.

Customers fold and tear off three edges of the bill to open it. Costs for separate envelopes were eliminated. The bill itself was calculated and processed in the same manner as the prior bill, and it will look the same as customers are used to seeing. Rates were unchanged from the last quarter.

Another relatively recent change with the City’s utilities billing process is the availability of electronic bill paying. Customers are encouraged to take advantage of this convenient way of paying their water and sewer bill. ACH Authorization Agreements are available under the “Forms” section of the website found at www.cityofsalida.com. The completed form must be signed and accompanied by a voided check. It can be mailed to or dropped off at City Hall.

The City bills its customers quarterly. A project to replace existing meters with a model that can be read electronically will be completed in the first quarter of 2010. This project, combined with the more efficient billing process, will enable the City to switch from quarterly bills to monthly bills should the City Council pass an ordinance to change the utilities code at some future date.
