I spoke with Robin, by way of John. Obviously, they are frustrated like us all. In brief this was the response. This was my impression as well, things got worse, fast.

During the 2007-08 and 2008-09 school years, we only had minor roof leaks at the middle school. They were located in the corner of the library and the corner of the computer lab. We used a local firm to "patch" these areas. Except for periods where snow and ice blocked the roof drain and scuppers, we did not experience any significant leaking until this year. As we attempted to manage the issues of ice dams forming around the drains and scuppers, the problems became worse.

As far the early years, I cannot address that except to state that I know that the company responsible for installing the roof is no longer in business and that the manufacturer's warranty ran out early this year. The problem appears to have been installation problem not a materials problem.

On good authority - the horses mouth- I have been told that the fact of the matter is the maintenance staff has brought to the Administrator's and Mr. Rouse's attention the fact that the roof needed to be fixed for the past 2 1/2 years? It is very unfortunate no legal action can take place with the company that built the building, but it is not something new that the district is just learning.
You can only ignore maintenance problems for so long and waiting and assuming the town will agree to a bond to build new schools is really not looking at the big picture.
I just hope we don't wait for mold and mildew to set in and then have some lawsuits the district can't afford on their hands.
Best of luck.
