DENVER — On Tuesday, legislators and policy makers will release a new report outlining specifics about the economic benefits and job creation of solar energy. This report will be released on the day the Senate hears testimony on HB 1001, the bill to increase the state’s Renewable Energy Standard.
Colorado is already a national leader in building a New Energy Economy. Colorado’s largest utility, Xcel Energy, is on track to meet and exceed existing targets for renewable electricity well ahead of schedule. HB 1001 increases the overall Renewable Energy Standard to 30 percent by 2020, in addition to setting the requirement that 3 percent of total electricity sales come from “distributed generation” (DG) systems powered by resources such as the sun and wind.
Following the press conference, the Senate Local Government and Energy Committee will be hearing HB 1001 at 2pm in Senate Committee Room 356.
