FIBArk is planning another open pool day for local kids in kayaks this Sunday, April 25 at the Salida Hot Springs Pool. The kids paddling clinic/pool session will be from 10 a.m. to noon and plan on arriving early for unloading and boat fitting (if necessary). The session will be mostly open kayaking with some one-on-one instruction for those who want it.
There will be a $5 dollar suggested donation that will include pizza at the end of the session. An RSVP is appreciated to get a head count of participants. Friends without boats are welcome to come, we have 6-10 boats available for enthusiastic beginners.
FIBArk is also looking for potential sponsors to help out with the cost of the program. If any potential businesses would like to be recognized for contributing to our cause the deadline to get into the program guide is NOW! If interested contact Samantha Lane at sponsorfibark@gmail.com
FIBArk Board Members have been working with RMOC and the Junior Kayak League to brainstorm ideas of what kind of trips we can offer. Historically paddlers have volunteered time at the FIBArk whitewater festival and in return FIBArk has offered affordable kayak instruction. Since this is the first year we are hoping to offer a small series of pool sessions and river trips throughout the summer. We can expand on in the future.
Feedback from parents or paddlers is appreciated and we hope to see you on Sunday.
As a nonprofit FIBArk Boat Races, Inc. has a goal to promote local youth participation in whitewater paddle sports. In recent years we’ve offered a scholarship program, however the Paddlers program has drifted away from a direct youth kayaking and rafting program. This year we have a goal to get more kids involved with the river.
