Exciting opportunity for middle school students

SCC has a FREE summer program for students entering 6th – 9th grade:  help the environment, serve your community and EARN a $500 Education Award!

The Southwest Conservation Corps is launching its first Learn & Serve program this summer to engage middle school students on service projects throughout Chaffee County.  Participants will work on a supervised crew for four weeks to complete environmental conservation projects such as: trail construction; habitat restoration; wetland clean-ups; and invasive species removal.  Educational activities will include local ecology, natural history, energy conservation, and life skills topics.

Upon completion of the four-week program, participants will receive a $500 Education Award.  This scholarship can be used for future academic pursuits at an accredited educational institution: it can be saved for college, used for occupational training (EMT classes, technical certifications, etc) or spent on summer courses and camps.

Crews will meet from 9am to 4pm, Monday through Friday, in Salida during the following dates:
Session 1:  June 7 – July 2, 2010
Session 2:  July 5 – July 30, 2010

Slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis so APPLY TODAY at:
