Habitat for Humanity offers thanks

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity, I want to thank the Commissioners, and Mayor Rose and the Salida City Council for waiving the building permit fees  and the plan processing fees for the duplex we will build in Salida.  All the money we raise goes towards either purchasing land or building affordable houses in partnership with families in need.  Because of the generosity of many people in the county, we are able to purchase some building materials at a reduced price, and almost all the labor required is by volunteers.  Even so, our direct costs for a house are at least $120,000.  We are very grateful to the commissioners and the city for not only recognizing the enormous need for affordable housing but supporting us in every way they can.

We will break ground for the duplex on lots 30A & B in the Starbuck Dairy subdivision Saturday, May 22, at 10:00 a.m.  Elected officials have been invited  and the public is very welcome also.

With heartfelt thanks,

Dick Cuyler
President
Board of Directors
