Senator Gail Schwartz has expressed interest in participating in a public dialogue concerning farmland preservation, the land-link initiative, and the local food economy. She is interested in advancing conservation efforts in Central Colorado and developing land use policies that contribute toward a sustainable future for our rural communities. She is particularly looking for feedback as to ways the Colorado Legislature can support the goals of the various organizations working on these objectives. Senator Schwartz is planning on, including Colorado Agriculture Commissioner, John Stulp, in our discussions.
Guidestone has offered to host this public gathering on the afternoon of Thursday, May 27th, from 1:30 to 4:30 at the Steam Plant Annex in Salida. We invite your organization to take part in a panel presentation outlining the initiatives already underway, the barriers you currently face, and the solutions that you envision. This is intended to be a dynamic dialogue that will inform our state representatives and solicit their active support. We look to present concrete examples of policy change that can support the missions of our individual organizations and funding strategies that can underwrite our collaborative efforts.
In order to prepare for this event, we have developed a survey that will help shape the afternoon’s program and provide Senator Schwartz with an understanding of the challenges we face. We ask that you fill out the attached survey and return it to our office by May 15th. You may also visit our website at www.guidestonecolorado.org and complete an online version of this survey.
Thank you for your participation in this program. We look forward to working together for the common good of our organizations and the communities we serve.
