Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity and Caring and Sharing of Salida are partnering to open a second ReStore outlet in Salida on June 26th at 224 West Rainbow Blvd, (Hwy. 50). Over the last several months, the two organizations have discussed ways to work together to help homeless/needy people in Chaffee County. Since both organizations help people who are in need of decent housing conditions, working together will help alleviate some of the poverty issues in the county.
Caring and Sharing helps our area’s citizens by selling used items, which provide funds for local residents who hope for better lives. By providing temporary housing and household items at a reduced price, Caring and Sharing gives back to the community by assisting those who need help.
CCHfH offers the same assistance, but by different methods. Last October, Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity opened a ReStore at 215 ½ Tabor in Buena Vista, which sells quality used and new building materials at 60-80% off retail. The funds from sales are used to build homes for people in need. ReStores provide an environmentally and socially responsible way to keep good, reusable materials out of the waste stream while providing funding for Habitat’s community improvement work.
Now, both organizations have joined their talents to jointly open a new store in Salida to sell used items. Caring and Sharing’s part of the store will be devoted to antiques and used items for home decor. CCHfH’s part of the store will be devoted to used building supplies and appliances.

Volunteers work to rennovate the store space for the ReStore and More, 224 West Rainbow Blvd. (Hwy. 50) in Salida, slated to open June 26th.
While every ReStore is a little different, most focus on home improvement goods like furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances.
The new store is currently under renovation. Volunteers are needed now to assist with getting the store ready, including advertising, renovation, signs, merchandising, and moving used items. Contact Gerry Dixon, ReStore Director, at (719) 966-6004 or Bonnie McDonald of Caring and Sharing at (719) 539-3686.

This is awesome. I knew there was one in BV, and I’m excited there will be one in Salida soon. Nice to help out two great organizations, and also keep usable, recyclable materials out of the landfill. Bravo!
