City of Salida and Chaffee County officials conducted an inspection of the Unique Theater located at 129 West 1st Street on Wednesday May 13, 2010. Based on the inspection and analysis completed, Chaffee County Building Official Bill Paradise determined that the building met the criteria of a “dangerous building” as defined in the International Building Code. A notice of the unsafe conditions has been posted on the building to warn the public not to enter or occupy the building. In addition the owner has been notified that it must either correct the unsafe conditions or demolish the building within the next ninety days.
While this means that the building is unsafe and has serious life, health and safety issues at this time the conditions outside the building do not pose an immediate risk to the general public or neighboring properties.
