What lives in the river?
The Arkansas River is a tremendous life-giving force that supports large numbers of terrestrial and aquatic organisms alike. We’ll play in and around the river while taking a close-up look at the creatures that live under rocks in the river and under leaf litter in the Bosque forest alongside the river. Microscopes, pitfall traps, science journals and field guides will be our equipment for this interesting and fun morning. The instructors are Ed Eberle with the Collegiate Peaks Chapter of Trout Unlimited and Dibby Olson, GARNA Board member and environmental educator. Kids ages 8-11 are welcome with a parent and/or guardian. The class will be held on Saturday, July 10 at 9:00 a.m. and will end by 12:00 p.m. The exact location is yet to be determined but we’re leaning toward Sand Lake. Kids and adults should wear comfy shoes that can get wet, and bring water and a snack. Cost is $5 for each kid attending with a GARNA member, $10 for each kid with a non-member or join GARNA at the individual or family level and the class is free!
Pre-registration required so please visit www.garna.org/seminars.htm to register or call GARNA at 539-5106 for more information.
