The Land Trust of the Upper Arkansas has teamed up with ArkAnglers Guide Service and Fly Shops to create “Guiding for Conservation”. On Monday, August 30, 2010, ArkAnglers guides will donate 100% of their guide fees to the Land Trust. This will be matched by ArkAnglers owners with 100% of their trip proceeds also being donated. All funds donated will be used by the Land Trust to support projects that protect the Arkansas River and its tributaries.
ArkAnglers and its guides realize how important our rivers and creeks are to the welfare of local communities and businesses. Land Trust of the Upper Arkansas Executive Director, Andrew Mackie, stated “This is a bold and generous step by ArkAnglers and their guides to voluntarily give over one day’s pay to support local conservation. This is a great partnership allowing the Land Trust to complete projects that will benefit all residents and visitors to the Valley.”
The Land Trust of the Upper Arkansas has already completed projects that have protected stretches of the Arkansas River or its tributaries, including providing public fishing access to the River in a section of Lake County. The Land Trust is also currently working on nine projects in the Valley, many of which will protect riparian habitat, water rights, and access to the River.
Anyone interested in fly fishing and wishing to book a trip with ArkAnglers on August 30, 2010 should call their Salida shop at 719-539-4223. This is a great way for individuals to have a first class guided fishing experience and contribute to the long-term protection of the Arkansas River. In addition, all participants will be invited to a post trip barbeque at the ArkAnglers shop in Salida.
ArkAnglers Guide Service was established in 1999 and is owned by Rod Patch and Greg Felt. They have stores in Salida, Buena Vista, and Pueblo. For more information on ArkAnglers visit their website at www.arkanglers.com. For more information on the Land Trust visit www.ltua.org.
