In conjunction with the International Mountain Biking Association’s “Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day” the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA), Absolute Bikes, and the Greater Arkansas River Nature Association (GARNA) have scheduled a mountain bike ride along the Arkansas River east of Salida in the Point Barr to Howard area on Sunday October 3rd at 11:00 a.m. This is an easy ride on a double track dirt road along the northeastern bank of the Arkansas River. The ride will start at the Point Barr Recreation site and proceed approximately 2 miles downriver to the western end of Howard then back to Point Barr. The Point Barr Recreation site is accessible from Fremont County Road 45 at the Wellsville exit off of Highway 50.
For those lacking mountain bikes, helmets, or transportation to the event, Absolute Bikes is offering complimentary mountain bike and helmet rentals, has a shuttle vehicle available to shuttle 8 riders to the event, and will be able to transport up to 20 bikes to the event if needed.
Adults are encouraged to bring their children along for this free fun ride. All children under 18 years of age need to be accompanied by an adult.
Please contact the AHRA by Thursday, September 30th to register for this event and to reserve mountain bikes, helmets, and a shuttle if needed. Call us at: 719-539-7289 or come by our Visitors Center at 307 West Sackett Avenue in Salida.
