Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center will host a reception on Wednesday, October 13, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. for the three artists whose work has been featured this year in the hospital’s rotating exhibit space. The reception is open to the public and will be held in the hospital’s second-floor conference rooms.
Painter Sally Mather of Salida, photographer Eric Wulfsberg of Colorado Springs, and painter John D. Cogan of Farmington, N.M., will speak about their art and display samples of their work.
Mather spent 30 years in nursing before directing her attention full time to painting outdoors on location. She said her paintings are about “slowing down and reconnecting with the earth, finding solace and a sense of home.” Mather also coordinates the art shows at the Salida Regional Library.
Wulfsberg has pursued photography for over 40 years and has a special interest in architectural landscapes. “While I love to photograph locations throughout the West,” said Wulfsberg, “with a brother and sister living in Nathrop, I have a special love of the central Colorado area.”
Cogan did not plan on becoming a painter, but after earning a Ph.D. in atomic physics and working two years in the field of geophysics, he decided to pursue art full time. “The whole physical world is interconnected in a grand design,” said Cogan. “My doctoral thesis work was on atmospheric collisions between simple atoms and protons. Now I find myself considering how the physics of the atmosphere affects the color of the sky and how to convey that color in paint.”
The reception will be catered by Michelle Gapp. For more information, call Marji Ackermann at 530-2217.
