Patty LaTaille has recently completed The Compassionate Leadership program, an 8-month program which provides intermediate and advanced Nonviolent Communication (NVC) learning opportunities through teleconferences, mentoring sessions and three residential retreats. Having attended a 10-day International Intensive Training in Nonviolent Communication in 2008 , Patty continues her certification process in Compassionate Leadership by enrolling in the program under a scholarship, and then attending three five day seminars in March, June and November, located in southern California (near Los Angeles) with an international training team.
The Compassionate Leadership program is presented by the Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC), a global organization that supports compassionate communication and nonviolent resolution of conflicts. Its’ mission is to create a critical mass of people using and sharing NVC all over the world, with a community of Trainers who would support this transformation in the world. As the executive director of Full Circle Restorative Justice (FCRJ), Patty facilitates Victim – Offender conferences, in which Restorative Circles are held; where the young offenders (ages 10 – 24) and their supporters, along with the victim and their supporters, plus concerned community members, meet to discuss the incident/crime, and work together to create a mutually agreeable contract to repair the harm. Restorative Justice is designed to hold the offender accountable, empower the victim to be heard as part of the justice process, and to restore harmony in the community.
The Nonviolent Communication study groups – which have been held bi-weekly (every other Thursday) at noon – 1:30 pm since Sept. 2008 – will be re-vamped and a 12 week course will begin on January 5. The study group is based on Marshall Rosenberg’s book on Nonviolent Communication and will be led by Patty and FCRJ Board member and stalwart NVC study group participant John Joyce. All study groups will be held at the FCRJ office at 54 Jones St. and will be on Wednesday evenings from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Forty-five minutes will be dedicated to specific NVC topics and then the final forty-five minutes will be practicing empathy through NVC and participating in roleplays. A $5 donation for each class is requested – or a $50 registration fee for all 12 classes is available. Please contact 719 221-3069 for more info.
