Roller derby league recruiting skaters and refs

We need FRESH MEAT!! Are you interested in Roller Derby? Looking for something to do this winter? Come join the Ark Valley High Rollers! Chaffee County’s own flat track derby league is opening recruitment next week. We are starting a new 12 step program to becoming a High Roller. According to Natalie, “The AVHR 12 step program to becoming a High Roller includes getting all ladies up to speed on the physical and mental parts of roller derby. These 12 weeks will get you prepared for taking the physical and written tests required of the league.”

Recruitment night is Monday, December 6th at 6pm at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds. Come meet some of the ladies, ask questions, strap on a pair of skates and see if you are ready to join the thrilling world of Roller Derby. “Practice itself is a great workout”, said Kyra, “It’s an intense sport and it involves a lot of training and skills.”

Skaters must be a minimum of 18 years old and female.  You do not need to have any prior skating experience to join. You must purchase your own equipment, be able to make at least two practices a week and serve on two committees. We are league owned and operated, so commitment is a crucial part of being on the team.

We are also looking for more than just ladies to skate.  Male or female, we always need non-skating officials, volunteers and referees.  Recruitment is always open for referees. They must learn the rules and attend practices. Refs are an integral part of the team.

Anyone interested in skating or refereeing are asked to contact the Ark Valley High Rollers at arkvalleyhighrollers@gmail.com.
