The City of Salida has entered into a construction agreement with Diesslin Structures, Inc. (“DSI”) for stabilization of the Unique Theater. Work is expected to begin as early as December 7, 2010 and will last approximately 4 weeks.
Stabilization work will include only the minimum work necessary to abate the dangerous conditions identified by the building official in the notice of violation issued on May 20, 2010. This work will include removal of debris from the roof of the theater, patching of the openings in the roof and shoring of the interior of the building. This project does not include correction of any potential environmental hazards that have been identified within the structure which may include asbestos, mold, and hazards related to bird or rodent infestation. Rather, DSI will take all necessary precautions to protect their employees during the project and to contain any hazards within the structure.
During the project there may be limited closures of the alley behind the theater for the loading or unloading of materials. It is not anticipated that access to any of the surrounding properties will be blocked during this time; however, access through the alley from F to G Street may be limited. If the need to further limit access through the alley does arise DSI will attempt to provide the property owners with at least 24 hours notice prior to closure. The hours of construction will be limited to those permitted by the Salida Municipal Code, or from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., although construction will typically end by 5:00 p.m. each day.
