Pabst Blue Ribbon and the Arkansas River Trust are hosting a benefit show Jan. 15 at the Asian Palate with Grammy-nominated band Missed the Boat with 100 percent of proceeds to be used for improvements on the Arkansas River.
Organizations including Pabst Blue Ribbon, Arkansas River Trust, Colorado Kayak Supply, 5 Spot Music Series, and MTN Morgan Productions have teamed up to bring in Missed the Boat in an effort to raise funds for improving and enriching the section of the Arkansas River that flows aside the town of Buena Vista.
Missed the Boat, hailing from Steamboat Springs, is a band with roots deep in the bluegrass genre but are by no means limited to this. The band drifts down a river of bluegrass, rock, blues, and funk to pull it all together for a show that can be enjoyed by all ages.
The past summer has shown the previous improvements to the river park were a success with the rise in whitewater events and recreational use of the area by locals and tourists alike. The current efforts are focused on implementing some of the finishing touches to the area with the funds raised.
“The river park is one of the greatest investments the town has made. It brings thousands of people to the community to play in the water, fish the pools, compete in disc golf, and walk or bike the trails. The economic benefit to our local businesses is tremendous, and the external effect on citizens’ own quality of life is ineffable. My family and I use it nearly daily throughout the year and we are ever grateful to those in the community who have worked so hard and donated time and money to create its amenities,” said Joel Benson, mayor of Buena Vista. Tickets are $10 at the door, or sold in advance through CKS or South Main in Buena Vista. The show starts at 9 p.m. at the Asian Palate and will end at midnight.
