The third annual Tenderfoot Cancer Climb kicks off with a Valentine’s party on Friday, February 11, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Salida SteamPlant. Come join the Lazy Alien Blues Band and Salida’s Keeper Koepplinger for a great night of music and dancing.
Marc Scott of KSBV Radio will emcee the evening and share information about this year’s Climb, which will be held April 30. Individuals and teams can sign up for the event at the kickoff.
KSBV is also providing great giveaways, including dinner and lodging for one night at Mt. Princeton’s Hot Springs, and dinner for two at Ferraro’s in Salida.
Hair stylists from Wild Horses Salon and Bella Vita Day Spa will offer free haircuts to anyone willing to donate their long locks to “Locks of Love.” This nonprofit organization provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss. Musician Keeper Koepplinger will be the first to have his ponytail cut off.
Michelle Gapp of Kalamatapit is catering the event with food donated by Scanga Meat Company, Walmart, Hormel and Vic Veltri of Sysco Foods.
The suggested donation cover charge of $5 per person benefits the Tenderfoot Cancer Climb, but cancer survivors are definitely free. Proceeds from the Climb are donated to the American Cancer Society (ACS). Since 1946, the ACS has invested $3.5 billion in cancer research. The ACS also works directly in Chaffee County by providing cancer patients with free transportation to medical treatments and sponsoring quarterly Look Good—Feel Better seminars at HRRMC for cancer patients undergoing treatment.
