Hi Writers: Come to Leadville author Amy Frykholm’s all-day workshop, “Writing Your Passions: Using What You Know and What You Love to Write Magazine Articles” this Saturday, February 26, 2011, from 9 am to 4:30 p.m. at the Sangre de Cristo Electric Association, 28780 Highway 24 in Buena Vista.
For the last four years, Amy has been a feature writer and editor for The Christian Century, where she published two-dozen features along with book reviews, interviews and blogs. She writes for literary and academic publications, as well. She has authored two books, Julian of Norwich: A Contemplative Biography and Rapture Culture: Left Behind in Evangelical America. This fall her third book, See Me Naked: Stories of Sexual Exile in American Christianity, will be released by Beacon. Amy’s books will be available for sale and autographing at the workshop.
Her workshop will cover the process of writing for magazines: finding ideas; searching for the right fit with a specific magazine; researching, interviewing and writing the article; querying magazines; submitting the article; and dealing with editors. She will also address questions about credentials, obtaining interviews, pay expectations, magazine contracts, and support from editors.
All levels of writers, with or without magazine article ideas, are welcome. While you may not leave with a completed article, you will leave with abundant ideas and techniques on how to write and how to get published.
Cost is $30 for Writers Exchange members and $45 for non-members. Discounts are available for early membership renewal.
For those intending to come but haven’t preregistered, it would be helpful if you let me know by e-mail to make sure we still have spaces available and so that Amy will have the correct number of handouts. Just bring your check or exact change to the workshop and if you aren’t a current Writers Exchange member, your completed registration form. The form and additional information is available at our web site. Please note as a special thank you to those who have preregistered, handouts will be given to you first and then to the late deciders.
Please bring a potluck dish to share for lunch. Check-in/registration is at 8:30 a.m. so we can start promptly! There will be a short Writers Exchange business meeting during or immediately following lunch. For more information about the workshop, look at our website (www.writersexchange.org) or call me at 395-2374 or Maria Weber at 395-6013.
Don’t miss this opportunity even if you have never thought of writing a magazine article. The workshop may inspire you to think about that hidden desire to write or you may just want to enjoy the day learning more about writing and the publishing world.
