Community discussion around Ploughboy Co-op

Submitted by Greg Bayne
“Let’s get together as a community that likes to eat. Let’s lease the Ploughboy. It sure seemed like an idea with legs. I know I will miss them if someone doesn’t take its place! Lets start Talkin’!”

  1. How about some background. What’s going on with the Ploughboy?

    1. Ploughboy is expected to close. You can read more here:

      Ploughboy Market to Close
      Ploughboy Letter to the City

  2. I hope Dave finds what he’s looking for, I think it’s all a sad story and I feel even worse for the people of Salida and the surrounding parts.
So to Salida and their neighbors, hang in there, when one door closes another is sure to open.

  3. Just spoke to Dave yesterday and he said he and Kerry were going to give it another go when they get back from Philly in May. It’ll be closed until then -except for the Salida Bread Co will still be baking their deliciousness. The people have spoken!!

  4. Heard it from the horse’s mouth….there is hope!

  5. Now, we get to see if Salida is a community that understands, values and practices forgiveness.

  6. That’s great news that they are going to give in another go! As the debts of our nation begin to drive inflation and consumer pricing up and up, the local food movement in Salida provides us with an ability to weather the storm.
I think the people of Salida will have no problem re-embracing the owner and the market.

  7. I also spoke with Dave and it sounds like they are going ti give it another try when they get back in about 6-8 weeks.

  8. I think this is great news. And Doug…I know we both believe this is a community that understands, practices and values forgiveness. I have been on the verge of “giving up” many times, due to the complexities and inconsistencies of permitting, building and inspections in Salida. We just have to face up to these issues and believe that the value of living in our community is worth the effort of pushing thru these obstacles, finding ways to fill the gaps, and growing Salida in a positive and business friendly manner. Welcome back, my friends.

  9. Wow! Great to hear Ploughboy will reopen. This shows how important, albeit painful, communication can be. If we all keep practicing, maybe we’ll get better at it.
    Thanks Salida Citizen.

  10. Man, I LOVE this community. This one little thread included words that I have experienced and given to others in this community: forgiveness, compassion, re-embracing, communication, second chances, pushing thru obstacles, Salida Bread (and horse’s mouth is a good one too!). Thank you, you beautiful people, for being my neighbors! You are wonderful. And this is some good news too (re: Ploughboy)… :o)

    1. Uhh, wait. I have given others Salida Bread, but I must be clear that I have neither “experienced” nor “given” horse’s mouth to anyone! I just know how rumors can start in communities as small as this, and I did use my last name… ;o)
