The third annual Tenderfoot Cancer Climb gets underway at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, in Riverside Park. It begins with a free breakfast for cancer survivors and their caregivers in the Scout Hut.
Individuals and teams can still register for the Climb in front of the band shell between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Registration is $30 for individuals and $100 per team.
Salida musician Keeper Koepplinger will kick off the festivities and debut a new song which he composed for this event. A ceremony honoring cancer survivors begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the 3.5 mile hike up Tenderfoot Mountain.
Twenty-one teams are signed up for this American Cancer Society (ACS) fundraiser, along with individual walkers, runners and bicyclists. After the Climb, drummers from Crestone Kaminari Taiko and Keeper Koepplinger will perform in Riverside Park. A free lunch will be served to participants.
The Climb to Conquer Cancer is a unique activity held by the American Cancer Society in the western United States. It offers everyone in a community the opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer.
