Mountain States Cup professional mountain bike racing comes to Salida

Submitted by frontiersman and western legend, Mr. Keith Darner

The RIVERSIDE RAMPAGE! will take place May 20th, 21st and 22nd

The inaugural Riverside Rampage mountain bike race is set for May 20-22 in Salida, Colorado. Two days of racing with three different stages are planned for the weekend. Registration and packet pick-up will be at the Boathouse Cantina located at 228 north “F” Street in historic downtown Salida, Colo.

The weekend’s events include a two-mile hill climb time trial up Tenderfoot Mountain (a.k.a. “S” Mountain) Saturday morning. Afterwards we’ll be racing short track on Tenderfoot Mountain. Sunday will be the cross-country race on the Arkansas Valley Hill Trails on and behind Tenderfoot Mountain.

You may enter all the events or pick and choose the events that best suit your racing style. For riders who participate in all three events there will be an overall award for those riders including a fourth set of points towards their Mountain States Cup Series overall standings.

If you are interested in pre-riding the courses, please stop by Absolute Bikes in Salida for a course map. On Saturday, May 14 the local trails group “Salida Mountain Trails” is hosting a trail improvement day specifically for the trails that we will be racing on, including a free lunch afterward down at Absolute Bikes. These trails are new within the past two years and require a lot of maintenance so if you have the time and want to give back, we’d love to see you.

On another note, the singletrack involved in this race is very technical. It is highly recommended that you ride these trails before you race. The race schedule will be posted next week.
