Jimmy Descant on his latest exhibit, “A Decade of Crutches and Coffins.”
In late 2002, I created and placed a peace sign on the front of my house in New Orleans, knowing what was coming. The drums of another war were pounding in the ears of the populace, with horrific bloodlust and misinformation. My neighbor sauntered over and said, “You’re brave for putting that there.” I knew what she meant, but I don’t think she really understood what she was saying.
Now, approaching ten years of war, we look back and see the facts about how we got here, how we allowed this to happen, and and how we are stumbling blindly as to how extricate ourselves and our country from the fear and corruption that has been modern war. I was a ranting fool for so long, playing into the back and forth of politics which led to even greater affronts to humanity and nationalism, but no more. I make my comments in my art, and after helping elect a game changer, only to be fooled once again, I will never vote Democrat or Republican ever again. Two sides to the same coin, and both disingenuous disgraces to the truth, the positive way forward, and to the troops they have committed to their follies and corruptions.
These pieces for this show are to put forth a connection with the most honorable citizens, our troops, and what they have endured, and will endure… while Pentagon generals go off to to be lobbyists, while Congressmen vacation at their summer homes, while a Supreme Court is corrupted by money changers, while a President disappoints and disgraces the potentials of his miraculous placement in office and his position in history. Peace and truth, what is it good for?
