The exhibition includes a free film screening of The Gates documentary on Thursday, June 23rd, at 7pm at the SteamPlant Ballroom.
Christo is currently working to obtain the permits for the temporary work of art Over The River. The artists have proposed suspending horizontally 5.9 miles of translucent fabric panels high above the Arkansas River at eight distinct locations between Salida and Canon City. The project would be on display for a period of two weeks in 2014 at the earliest. The Bureau of Land Management is in the process of analyzing the project’s potential impacts and mitigation measures, and the Over The River Final Environmental Impact Statement is scheduled to be released sometime this spring.
The exhibit at the Salida SteamPlant Ballroom offers the public an opportunity to learn more about all of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s previous projects, as well as their proposed temporary work of art Over The River. The exhibition is being organized by local supporter organization Friends of Over The River with help and support from local sponsors.
