Colorado Kayak Supply will be hosting the stand up paddle board competition in Salida, CO. There will be a 2.5 mile downriver sprint race and a surfing comp at the best wave in the Salida play park. Registration fees for competitors is $20 per event or $30 for both. If you are comfy in the water, can swim, and have a PFD & a helmet you can compete; leashes are optional.
Friday July 15th: There will be a free demo Friday evening from 6-8 pm at the upper wave for folks that want to get warmed up. The demos are free for Friday only form 6-8 pm. If you need a board for the event, please contact CKS direct to reserve the SUP for your race. 719 395 8653 x 2.
Saturday July 16th: Registration starts at 8.30 am and continues until the start of the race. Register at the Recreation, Engineering, and Planning office which is adjacent to the top wave in the Salida play park. To get there park at the boat ramp and walk upstream on the bike path, look for the registration booth.
The Down River Race starts at 10 am and will have two classes, Recreational and Expert and each will have Men’s and Women’s divisions. Max board length is 12’6”. 1st, 2nd, and Last Place will receive prizes. Competitors will start 1 per minute and will be timed at the start and finish. Start will be near the top wave in the play park and finish will be at Salida East. You must arrange your own shuttle for the race.
The River Paddle Board Surf Comp will be on a rolling schedule and tentatively start at 2 pm. will have a Men’s and Women’s division as well and be judged on fluidity, style, and innovation. 1st, 2nd, and Last Place will receive top prizes again.
We have great prizes lined up (CKS, Teva,Badfish, Shred Ready, NRS, FCS, Headhunter and local gift certificates – (not to mention more sponsors to come)) and will have the awards ceremony at Ray’s Boathouse Cantina from 4-6 pm on Saturday that overlooks the mighty Arkansas River. The food is great and the beer will be flowing all day. Bring the whole family to enjoy a great day of fun and easy going competitions.
