Do you like ghost stories? Want to learn who built the road around S-Mountain? Join the Historic Salida Cruiser Ride on Sunday, August 21 and open your ears to a few good stories and tall tales.
The ride is open to all ages and abilities – moms with trailers in tow, retired couples, normal folks and whoever else would like to do a fun cruiser ride to support the Alliance Against Domestic Abuse (AADA).
The Historic Salida Cruiser Ride is part of the new Monarch Crest Crank bicycle fundraiser for AADA. AADA executive director, Mandy Trollip, told us “Although the Crest Crank has traditionally been a mountain bike ride on the Crest Trail, we wanted to open the event up to everyone. Not just really fit mountain bikers. To enjoy the cruiser ride, all you have to do is ride a bike around the fairly flat streets of town and be interested in good stories.”
In fact, you don’t even have to own a cruiser bike, any bike will do. Or, you can rent a stylish cruiser from Absolute Bikes on the day of the event. The ride will be led by local guidebook writer Nathan Ward, a man who always has an ear open for interesting stories.
The ride will start at Absolute Bikes (330 West Sackett Avenue) at 10am on Sunday, August 21st. The ride will take about two hours, including a halfway stop for Italian sodas. The cost is $30 and includes the ride and the post-ride Crest Crank party in Riverside Park – lunch, live music, t-shirt and fun. Register for the rides on Saturday, August 20 at Salida Mountain Sports (110 N. F Street) from 5-9 pm. All minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
