The HRRMC Kids Health Fair is coming to the Salida SteamPlant Event Center, Sackett and G Street, on Sunday, October 2, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
Kids can assemble their own first aid kit, explore a fire truck and ambulance, and learn about dog-bite prevention. Stage Left Theatre will present the interactive game show, “It’s Your Health,” and Salida Circus will perform.
Attendees can also paint their own flower pot, learn about injury prevention, participate in a hand-washing demonstration and have fun face painting.
Free Vision, blood pressure, dental and body mass index (BMI) screenings will be offered for children ages 3 to 10, who are accompanied by a parent. Results of the screenings will be reported in aggregate to the El Pomar Foundation. Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center Foundation received a $10,000 grant from the El Pomar Foundation for the hospital to sponsor the fair.
Registered dietitian Sally Ayotte and volunteers from LiveWell Chaffee County will help the children create a healthy snack. Chaffee County Public Health will share information about the health-insurance initiative “My Kids R Covered” and on enrolling in the Colorado Medical Assistance Programs.
A limited number of car-seat fittings are available by calling 530-2243 for an appointment.
Families are invited to attend the fair with children of all ages. Great giveaways include a car seat, booster seat and two bikes from Absolute Bikes.
