Salida High School & Middle School Students
Looking for something fun and rewarding to do on your Friday’s off? The Southwest Conservation Corps (SCC) is looking for youth volunteers for two “Field Friday’s” in September. Participants will work alongside SCC corpsmembers to complete conservation projects on public trails in and around Salida. Projects will be held on September 16 and September 30 for any Salida Middle School and High School students interested in working outside and getting their hands dirty.
The Southwest Conservation Corps (SCC) is a non-profit organization whose mission it is to empower individuals to positively impact their lives, their communities, and the environment. The intention and hope for “Field Friday’s” is to not only give students a positive place to spend their Friday’s, but also to give local youth the opportunity to see what type of work our organization does and to interact with representatives from other local organizations.
BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATION: SCC runs programs throughout the summer; specifically Chaffee County Community Corps. SCC Community Corps is a month long work program to provide local youth with leadership development, work experience, and education opportunities. Community Corps is an excellent program for motivated and hard-working teens looking to gain valuable work experience and immerse themselves in their communities. Field Friday’s give student’s an opportunity to network with SCC staff and get a feel of what working on a Community Corps crew would be like. This is also a great chance for students to earn community service hours, gain career experience and an understanding of service ethic.
More information and sign-up sheets can be found in the main office of the schools or contact Hanna Hopkins at (719) 539-2438 or hanna@sccorps.org
