CHAFFEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

On Tuesday morning, the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office was alerted by a detective from the Redding, California Police Department that a subject wanted on a felony warrant from Kalispell, Montana was possibly in the Salida area. According to their information, Robert Shinall, 36, was wanted on a warrant charging him with felony sexual assault. Shinall was said to be possibly armed with a firearm and reportedly had made threats against law enforcement officers in the past.
Sheriff’s deputies began investigating leads developed locally and discovered that Shinall was reportedly working on a reservoir construction project in Park County and living in Buena Vista. Further investigation revealed that Shinall was employed by a local firm and was in the Buena Vista area. Sheriff’s deputies, assisted by Buena Vista police officer Glen Zirkel, located Shinall’s vehicle at the company’s parking lot. After a short surveillance, officers arrested Shinall without incident when he returned from the construction site.
Shinall was lodged in the Chaffee County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Montana.
