Dr. Karen Johnson has joined Surgical Specialists of Colorado and begins a full-time general/trauma surgery practice at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center on January 2.
Dr. Johnson is relocating to Salida from New Haven, Conn., where she worked for 17 years in private practice as a general surgeon. She was affiliated with Yale-New Haven Hospital, the Hospital of Saint Raphael and Temple Surgical Center.
Board certified in general surgery, Dr. Johnson has a special interest in diseases of the breast. She earned her medical degree from Texas A&M University and completed her residency in general surgery at the Hospital of Saint Raphael. She also holds a master’s degree in nutrition.
“We are very excited to welcome Dr. Johnson to the medical staff at HRRMC and to the local community,” said the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Ken Leisher. “We feel very fortunate to be adding a surgeon with her wealth of experience and talents, as well as a strong desire to live and work in rural Colorado.”
