GARNA Birding Group

Fifteen intrepid birders showed up at my house at 7:15 this morning. We explored the piñon/juniper forest and some cottonwood and aspen areas along a stream.

The following is the list of 19 species we saw:
Sharp-shinned hawk – juvenile
Mourning Dove
Broad-tailed Hummingbird – including one on a nest
Northern Flicker
Red-naped SapSucker – nest in a tree, two adults and lots of noise from the chicks in the aspen tree
Cordilleran Flycatcher – nest also on top of our bat house
Red-wing Blackbird
Warbling Vireo
Tree Swallow
Violet-green Swallow
Mountain Chickadee
Red-breasted Nuthatch – heard
White-breasted Nuthatch
American Robin
Townsend’s Solitaire
Green-tailed Towhee
Spotted Towhee
Black-headed Grosbeak
Brown-headed Cowbird
