Reader appreciates Longfellow staff

Dear Editor,

I would just like to extend a big thank you to the entire staff of Longfellow Elementary. For the second year in a row, our family has enjoyed “Meet and Treat.” Last year, the staff cooked for an entire community after they worked all day. After hours, our children went room to room getting an educational nonedible treat from their teachers.

Teachers’ dedication goes beyond their 7:50 – 4 p.m. job. In the evenings and over the weekends, they are correcting, planning, taking classes, taking kids on field trips, volunteering at dances, sporting events or other extracurricular activities. Over the summer, that some claim they have “off,” I see our teacher’s cars and bikes at school as they are always getting ready for the next school year. They are taking classes in order to keep up-to-date with their licenses and new methodologies.

I appreciate this dedicated staff, from the janitors, to the cooks, to the support staff, to the nurses, to the educators and to the administrators. Thank you for going above and beyond. Thank you for giving up your precious evenings, many weekends, good portions of your summers in which you take classes (paying for this out of your pocket) in pursuit of doing what is absolutely best for our children.

This evening was just another example of the devotion that our staff has toward our children and this community. Thank you. You are appreciated!
