E. Andrew Jonassen, M.D., has joined the medical staff at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center as a second full-time, local orthopedic surgeon. He will perform total hip and knee replacements as well as general orthopedic surgery at HRRMC.
Dr. Jonassen specializes in joint replacement surgery, including minimally invasive surgery, orthopedic trauma and limb reconstruction. His practice will complement Dr. Robert Hunter’s sports medicine practice in the HRRMC Orthopedic Center of Excellence.
He and his wife, Rosemary, are relocating to Salida from Denver, where he was medical director of orthopedic trauma at The Medical Center of Aurora, a Level II Trauma Center. He was also affiliated with Rose Medical Center, Sky Ridge Medical Center and Swedish Medical Center.
“We are very happy to have Dr. Jonassen join Dr. Hunter in our orthopedic practice,” said hospital CEO Ken Leisher. “This is another step in our ability to provide a full range of orthopedic services locally. Dr Jonassen has enjoyed a distinguished career in the Denver-area and will be a great addition to our medical staff. “
Board certified in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Jonassen began his orthopedic practice in metro Denver in 1989 with Denver Health Medical Center and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He completed a fellowship in joint replacement/arthritis at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and a second fellowship in orthopedic traumatology at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He has treated complex fractures for more than 20 years.
“I wanted to come to Salida to build a joint replacement program and make an impact in this great mountain valley,” said Dr. Jonassen. “I find that restoring a patient’s function and independence is very gratifying.”
Dr. Jonassen was born in London and earned his medical degree and completed a residency in orthopedics at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada.
Dr. Jonassen’s offices are located in The Medical Clinics, 550 W. Highway 50, Salida. He can be reached at (719) 530-2000.
