Ark-Valley Humane Society

The Ark-Valley Humane Society is a non-profit animal shelter serving Chaffee County. Formed in 1991, Ark-Valley offers dogs, cats and other pets for adoption, provides spay/neuter assistance programs and cares for stray and owner-surrendered pets.

The Ark-Valley Humane Society was formed in for the purpose of:

  • Establishing and maintaining an animal shelter for lost and unwanted pets;
  • Reducing the number of unwanted pets through a spay/neuter program.
  • Providing a connection between homeless pets and adoptive homes.
  • Preventing cruelty to animals.
  • Offering lost and found services for pet owners.
  • Providing public education for responsible pet ownership in order to provide a more healthy, satisfying quality of life for Chaffee County residents, humans and animals alike

For a shelter like the Ark-Valley Humane Society, adoptions are crucial to the success of our goal to never euthanize a healthy, adoptable pet for reasons of time or space.

Foster care and active, well-supported spay/neuter programs are just two of the many elements that contribute to achieving this goal. We also have a Trap-Neuter-Return Program to humanely control populations of feral cats in the community. Our Pet Placement Program sponsors adoption fees for shelter pets or prospective adopters that have special needs and we have several events throughout the year, such as Adopt-A-Thons, Arfwalk and the Buena Vista Canine Classic, which provide public relations, adoption and educational opportunities through celebrating the human/animal bond. We invite you to visit us, especially if you are looking for a new family member!

Ark-Valley Humane Society, Inc. is located at 701 Gregg Drive in Buena Vista, Colorado 81211 [map]. We are open Monday through Saturday 10am to Noon and 1pm to 5:30pm. You can reach us by phone at (719) 395-2737.
