The spirit of community radio lives on in the rural West at KHEN 106.9 FM. KHEN provides education, cultural enrichment, and entertainment for the Salida area through a low-power, 100-watt radio station.
The nonprofit, member-supported KHEN first went on the air in January 2003, broadcasting from an antenna mounted to the roof of the KHEN studio. Subsequently, the antenna was moved to the kiosk on Tenderfoot Mountain, providing better coverage for local residents.
KHEN benefits the region by giving voice to the under-represented and reflects diverse interests and lifestyles in a non-partisan manner.
KHEN now broadcasts 24 hours per day and offers syndicated programming like Democracy Now, Putamayo World Music, Bioneers, Alternative Radio, etown and Counterspin. A live audio stream and some recorded shows are also available online.
