The Central Colorado Coalition for Peace is a grassroots movement that promotes peace. An offshoot of the Central Colorado Humanists, the Coalition for Peace got its start after local citizens returned from the 2003 protest against the war in Iraq held in Washington, D.C.
The membership-based Coalition encourages thoughtful discussion about the role of the US in world affairs and especially US militarism, through meetings, events and informational speaking engagements. The Coalition promoted a municipal resolution against the war in Iraq, prompting significant local discussion before being denied by the Salida City Council.

A prominent downtown sign protesting the war in Iraq is also the work of the Coalition. It remains in place, despite claims by the City that it violated the municipal sign ordinance, after being defended by the ACLU as being subject to constitutional rights to freedom of expression.
The Coalition works closely with the Central Colorado Humanists and the two organizations often cosponsor events. Recently, they brought Alternative Radio founder and journalist David Barsamian to Salida to speak on the anniversary of the beginning of the war in Afghanistan. The Coalition also has an informal relationship with the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center.
Information on joining the Coalition for Peace is available at their website.
