FEBRUARY IS MONARCH MOUNTAIN EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION MONTH! All Monarch Mountain employees can bring in a current paystub or other proof of employment and swim FREE in the public pools all month long. We appreciate you keeping the slopes maintained, the food warm, the beverages cold and keeping us all safe out there on the mountain!
INAUGURAL FATHER/DAUGHTER DANCE: ACROSS THE AGES! Join Salida Recreation and the Salida SteamPlant February 17, 2018, 6:30-8:30pm. Come dance and mingle with other fathers and daughters while you create precious memories. Phreckles Photography will be present to capture you and your shining princess (es). Light appetizers and desserts will be provided. All ages are welcome - Uncles, Grandfathers and Dads are encouraged to bring your special little lady or ladies, no matter the age!! Tickets are $10/person and can be purchased at the Aquatic Center, Salida Chamber and the Salida SteamPlant box office beginning Feb. 1, 2018. This is an alcohol free event.
NEW WATER FITNESS CLASS OFFERED AT THE AQUATIC CENTER! Beginning Friday, Feb. 2, 2018 we will offer Water Pilates Fridays 8:00-9:00am. This class combines traditional Pilates moves with natural resistance of water and use of props to build core strength and aid in proper body alignment. The class incorporates floating water exercise and stretching to improve flexibility and range of motion. This is a drop in class, cost is $5. Punch passes and memberships with an add on pass are accepted.
2018 FITNESS CHALLENGE PROGRAMS! NOW is a great time to engage in healthy, fun activities that support an active lifestyle. Salida Recreation has some exciting, motivating, and fun ideas for the 7th Annual Fitness Challenge. We have a FREE Tai Chi Sampler class with Jon Fritz of HRRMC taking place at the Salida Steamplant, Friday, Feb. 2, 9-9:45am. This is a drop-in class. For ages 18 and older. This class will incorporate gentle movements to increase strength, balance, and relaxation.
FEBRUARY TRAVELOGUE! Join Salida Recreation at the Salida SteamPlant, Tuesday, Feb. 6 from 7-8:30pm, doors open at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $5/person and a cash bar is available with beer, wine and soft drinks. The Salida Recreation Travelogue series is a great way to see others' recreation related vacations and adventures without ever having to leave Salida. It is also a great way for those that do the traveling to share their experiences with their community. This travelogue features Amber van Leuken on her recent trip to Nepal. The Annapurna Region of Nepal is breathtaking and remote. In November, Amber returned to Nepal to travel through this mountainous region by foot with her two daughters, ages 5 and 9, her mother, age 65, and friends. Their adventure, full of hiking, cultural immersion, and breathtaking views, invites all of us, regardless of age, to push boundaries and venture into new worlds.
JIVE AND DIVE FOR FEBRUARY! Friday, Feb. 9 from 7-9pm, middle schoolers ONLY pool party. Drop-in, $5.
CIRCUS SKILLS CLASSES! Join Salida Recreation and Salida Circus: Circus Skills Aerial, Acrobatics and Equilibristic classes for youth ages 4 and up. The next two sessions are Feb. 16-March 9 and April 6-April 27; 2pm, ages 4-7 or 3pm, ages 8+, $50. Both time slots, all sessions 45 minutes, $50, minimum of 8, maximum of 15 students. Salida Circus tutors Jennifer Dempsey, Heather Haggerty and Joan Lobeck will be leading Circus Skills classes including Tumbling, Acrobatic balancing, Aerial and Equilibristics (juggling, etc). Participants will use aerial fabric, static trapeze and lyra. Skills taught include traditional and Russian climb, foot locks, hip keys on silks; Single/double moves on trapeze and lyra. All classes are suitable for beginners and those with experience. Please register by calling or in person at the Aquatic Center. May sign up for all sessions together. Payment must be received at time of registration. No drop-ins accepted. Scholarships available. All classes take place at Salida Middle School Gymnasium, 520 Milford.
