Violin, piano prodigies to perform at SteamPlant March 8, K-12 students admitted free with adult

Classical musicians William Hagen and Albert Cano Smit will present stirring works from six composers during a Thursday, March 8 performance brought to the Steamplant by Salida Aspen Concerts.

"We couldn't pass up the opportunity to bring these two young virtuosos to Salida," said Molly Walker, board president of Salida Aspen Concerts."They are a fitting prelude to Salida Aspen Concert's exciting summer season."

Hagen, a violinist, and Cano Smit, a pianist, are each in their early 20s. The poignancy of their performance belies their youth, as evidenced by the bountiful accolades proffered to each. Hagen debuted with the Utah Symphony at age nine, and Cano Smith was performing at world-class venues by the time he was in his late teens.

The duet will begin their Salida performance with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's violin sonata in E-flat major, K. 302, following by Igor Stravinsky's Suite Italienne and Karol Szymanowski's Nocturne and Taranantella, op. 28. Following a brief intermission, the duet will segue to Franz Schubert's Wanderer Fantasy in C major and two works by Fritz Kreisler before closing with Pablo de Sarasate's Introduction and Tarantella, op. 43.

"Classical music is an evolving art, and this performance demonstrates that by spanning Mozart's classicism to Stravinsky's modernism in a single, evocative evening," Walker said.

Doors open at 7 p.m., with the performance commencing at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door, with students K-12 admitted free with accompanying adult. Tickets may be purchased in advance through the Salida SteamPlant box office, or online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/salida-aspen-concert-william-hagen-and-albert-cano-smit-tickets-43220211817
