Upcoming Salida Recreation Events and Classes for April 2018

APRIL IS SALIDA SCHOOL DISTRICT STAFF APPRECIATION MONTH! Please bring in a school badge or other proof of employment and swim for FREE in the public pools all month long. We appreciate you providing a safe, nurturing environment and for teaching and caring for our children day in and day out.

MOONLIGHT MONDAY TO BENEFIT SAVE OUR SCHOOLS SALIDA! Dine at Moonlight Pizza and Brewpub Monday, April 2 and 10% of the day’s sales will benefit S.O.S.S, which funds Friday Enrichment programming through Salida Recreation.

LONGFELLOW AND SALIDA MONTESSORI LESSONS AT SHSAC DURING THE MONTH OF APRIL! During the month of April each year the Salida Hot Spring pool hosts swimming lessons for the Longfellow Elementary and Salida Montessori physical education classes. Longfellow Elementary will be in the lap and leisure pools 8:30-11:45am and 1-2:50pm, Monday through Thursday, April 2-May 3, 2018. Salida Montessori will be in the lap and leisure pools 10-11:45am and 1-1:45pm, Fridays, April 6-April 27, 2018. The Aquatic Center is shared by many user groups. Lap lane availability may vary. In order to make your lap swimming as enjoyable as possible, we offer a handout “Best Lap Swim Times” each month to help you choose the best time to work out. In addition, some of our water fitness classes will need to be moved to a different time slot for the month. Aquacize will move from 8am to noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Arthritis will move from 9am to 8am on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays. Water Volleyball will move from 8am to 7am Tuesdays and Thursdays.

UNDERWATER EGG HUNT! Celebrate the coming of spring and Easter with this unique egg hunt Thursday, March 29, 5 to 6:30pm. Kids retrieve the colorful eggs from the pool and exchange them for goodies! We'll have age divisions to ensure everyone has fun and stays safe, plus goodies for all! Youngest kids will begin at 5:15, with older kids to follow. Fee of $5 per child includes treats, prizes, and swimming until 8pm.

SPRING SESSION OF CAMP FRIDAY: FITNESS GAMES, NATURE WALKS & ARTS EXPLORATION! Salida Recreation is offering one more session of CAMP Friday for this school year beginning, Friday, April 6 and running through Friday, April 27. We are partnering with GARNA, Guidestone, Sellars Project Space, Season’s Café, Articipate and Maverick Potter for this four-week session. Ages 5-8, Fridays, April 6-27, 9am-2pm, cost $5/person/day. Preregistration is required. No drop-ins accepted. All registrations and liability waivers must be completed at the Aquatics Center. Payment must be made at time of registration.

CIRCUS SKILLS CLASSES! Join Salida Recreation and Salida Circus: Circus Skills Aerial, Acrobatics and Equilibristic classes for youth ages 4 and up, April 6-April 27; 2pm, ages 4-7 or 3pm, ages 8+, $50. Both time slots, all sessions 45 minutes, $50, minimum of 8, maximum of 15 students. Salida Circus tutors Jennifer Dempsey, Heather Haggerty and Joan Lobeck will be leading Circus Skills classes including Tumbling, Acrobatic balancing, Aerial and Equilibristics (juggling, etc). Participants will use aerial fabric, static trapeze and lyra. Skills taught include traditional and Russian climb, foot locks, hip keys on silks; Single/double moves on trapeze and lyra. All classes are suitable for beginners and those with experience. Please register by calling or in person at the Aquatic Center. Payment must be received at time of registration. No drop-ins accepted. Scholarships available. All classes take place at Salida Middle School Gymnasium, 520 Milford.

SPORTS LEAGUES MANDATORY PRE-SEASON MEETING! Any coach/manager who has a team interested in playing women’s softball, girl’s softball, men’s softball, Babe Ruth baseball, or any other team intending to use Marvin Park in Spring 2018, must attend this mandatory pre-season meeting April 16, 6:30-7:30pm in the Tenderfoot Room of the Touber Building, across from Council Chambers. We will discuss contracts, scheduling, field maintenance, user fees and fines and other regulations. This will also be the place to bring up any questions or concerns.
